And I told you that I do that and asked you to backport it to 0.12. Plus, I'm not on the translators list, as I can't subscribe, which I also already told you. > I don't see your commits to implement what has been discussed in the > jabber room: > http://www.gajim.org/muc_logs/gajim@conference.gajim.org/2008/12/18.html#22… Not solving the problem, but only making the user aware of it. Why not send a blank space every 55 sec to avoid routers closing idle connections? That would also detect if our connection is dead, thanks to TCP/IP. And that's what one really understands when talking about keep alive. What we do is ping, not keep alive. > I'm not saying it's your job more than mine or the job of any dev, of > course, just that it's a free software, we all have many other things > to do, and that putting presure on others is not a good thing. I'm not saying to release as it is, but that we need to find a solution, test that and release a 0.12.1 ASAP. > have nice end of year parties You too :). -- Jonathan

Update German Translation
by Nico Gulden 21 Dec '08

21 Dec '08

Hello Yann and Jonathan, thanks for the 0.12.1 release. Great job. Based on SVN trunk revision #10885 I had a look at the german translation and translated the missing and fuzzy strings. See the patch attached. Gajim file transfer
by Dmitry Korzhevin 21 Dec '08

21 Dec '08

Hello! I want to say that the problem of transferring files is very important, and issuing frequent releases program to correct errors - a good sign that developers do not forget about the users who, for whatever reason, do not use SVN. -- Best regards, Dmitry Korzhevin Tel: +38 (039) 295-0000 E-mail: dkorzhevin(a)lsupport.net URL: http://lsupport.net

Fwd: UPDATE: net/gajim to 0.12 and drop maintainership
by Jonathan Schleifer 19 Dec '08

19 Dec '08

Here's a mail where OpenBSD states why they won't commit 0.12 into their ports tree. So much for "This is not a issue for users not using GPRS", Yann. And so much for it's obvious how to disable it - it seems more like it isn't obvious at all, as noone seemed to figure out for hisself what's causing it and how to disable it. We need to release 0.12.1, and we need to do that ASAP! Anfang der weitergeleiteten E-Mail: > Von: Pierre-Emmanuel André <pea(a)raveland.org> > Datum: 19. How to thank contributors
by Yann Leboulanger 18 Dec '08

18 Dec '08

Hi all, It has been reported, and I agree with that, that we don't thank contributors, patchers as we should. but the question is, how should we do that. We ahve a THANKS file in our sources, but if we put all contributors in this file, it will become huge, no? Another option could be a page on trac? What do you think? -- Yann

There is nothing wrong in a partially translated program; otherwise msgfmt would consider untranslated/fuzzy messages a critical error. Removing incomplete translations has only nefarious effects: It is an insult to translators' work, it is a disservice to users who still prefer using programs in their native language, and it is a impolite to those who take advantage of the LANGUAGE environment variable and may use only a subset of the translated strings as fallback. Fortunately, only a few free software projects do this (Mozilla, OOo, Claws Mail, ...), and it is very disturbing to see Gajim joining them in this bad practice.

Switch Gajim source repository to DVCS
by Nico Gulden 16 Dec '08

16 Dec '08

Hello Gajim-Developers, recently we had a discussion about DVCS in Gajim's groupchat. I vote for switching from SVN to DVCS and below I want to outline why. Because Gajim is mostly implemented in Python, I guess Mercurial (hg) [1] could be the best choice. For me DVCS has only advantages ;-) - Speed - Complete repository - Independent from online repository, therefore offline commits - Easy branching for trying out new features - Easy merge - Simplicity - Increased overall flexibility There are certainly more. I found an article [2] summarizing them pretty well. I looked deeper into DVCS this summer and focused on Git. Therefore most of my links refer to Git, so do the articles [3] and [4]. There are a bunch more articles and blog entries about this topic. A short description how to convert subversion to mercurial can be found at [5]. I haven't tried it out yet. There is a mercurial plugin for trac [6]. I haven't used it yet and cannot tell how well it's working. Maybe someone on the list has some experiences about it. I'd like to hear you oppinions about switching vom SVN to DVCS.
