Gajim and GPG auto-key-retrieve
by Adrian C. 07 Mar '07

07 Mar '07

Hello, this morning I've expirienced some strange behaviour. Every few minutes the whole Gajim UI would freeze and in my terminal I would see a message: gpgkeys: key 183AF3BE23158056 not found on keyserver So, from where did this key come from, and why does Gajim need it? ... So, some folks at gajim@conference... explained to me that: Jonas: i'm guessing someone sent a signed presence packet... But they also said: nusse: it shouldnt search/download any keys Jonas: it should look through the existing keys only Jonas: and skip verifying any unknown In my gpg.conf I have: keyserver-options auto-key-retrieve So, according to them Gajim should not try to get the key, but I guess it depends on your GnuPG settings, so it tries. The thing is when this happens the whole Gajim becomes unresponsive for more than 30 seconds, even a whole minute! Complete freeze, and after it failes (or succeed in some other case) it resumes. I'm at SVN revision 7998, and I haven't found a bug report on this on the trac (if there is one, I apologise for this message). Thank you, anrxc. -- JID:anrxc|sysphere|org | sysphere.org/~anrxc/

Looking for a XMPP-client
by Marius Hanne 21 Feb '07

21 Feb '07

Hello there, we've reached the limits of the msn protocol an are about to migrate to a jabber-based infrastructure. So we're looking for a xmpp-compilant server which supports text, audio and video-messages in 1on1 and conference-mode. Unfortunately, there is no meaningful comparision-chart available. So could you send us a featurelist of your software so we have a chance to decide? Kind regards -- Marius Hanne Development Java. Mit Sicherheit. [patch] Nickname and Fullname support in the roster
by Damien THEBAULT 20 Feb '07

20 Feb '07

Hello, Currently, in the roster, the contact displayed name is either : - the name if the user choosed one or - the first part of the jid ("user" for user(a)jabber.org) It may be a nice feature to display the nickname of the contact. With this patch, the contact's displayed name is : - the name the user entered if it did like it does actually - the nickname of the contact if it's available in the vcard - the fullname of the contact if it's available in the vcard - firstname "middlename" lastname of the contact if it's available - the first part of the jid (This could be extended with the as the xep 0154 describe it, but this is enough for msn transport nick and gmail fullname display) So I added the vcard in the contact class when one is received, and the contact in the roster is updated. Then the get_shown_name() method of the contact returns the name as it's described above. I don't really know where it's better to query for vcards, so I put this in the handle_event_notify() method. It'll query the vcard at every "contact changed show". So on startup, all contacts became online and all those vcards are queried. But for the offline users there is no name change, and I don't really know if the vcard query is in the right place. (Maybe it does too much vcard queries to the server too?) Since It's one of my first coding with python and gajim, maybe I didn't do it the right way, but I send this here because it may interest some people :) Regards, -- Damien Thebault Key C15AB8AF Fingerprint 8FB9 8576 7033 4B45 3DF5 88E8 5471 1A44 C15A B8AF

Outdated ICQ client messages for trillian pro users and current trunk
by Hannes Tismer 13 Feb '07

13 Feb '07

Using trunk: 7911 (Downloaded trunk today, problem exists since today) This appears in my gf's Trillian Pro since trunk 7911: [16:24:01] *** NOTE: This user appears to be using an older Mirabilis ICQ client, which depends on an outdated version of the ICQ protocol. As such, you *may* experience intermittent message loss. Encourage them to upgrade to Trillian or a newer build of ICQ! (You can e-mail them, or call them... ) You may turn off this warning in ICQ Account Preferences -> Misc. -- Hannes Tismer Software Development Medical Display Solutions Rein EDV GmbH Jakob-Krebs-Straße 124 D-47877 Willich Fon: +49 2156 49490 Fax: +49 2156 494939 Visit us at www.medisol.org

Hello gajim-devel, I haven't been able to get to gajim.org for a few days. Is that a common problem, or do I need to fix my network again? -- Best regards, Andrew Diederich
